SUMMARY

The Manager Partnerships and Fundraising at Wadhwani Institute for AI (Wadhwani AI) will support in shaping the next 3-5 years for the Institute. This role includes strategy and execution of fundamental partnership and fundraising initiatives. The purpose of the Partnership and Fundraising team in Wadhwani AI is to expand the Institutes work by 

  • Raise funds from institutional and individual donors

  • Create partnerships in new geographies and delivery platforms to build or scale existing AI solutions

  • Engage with the wider ecosystem of organizations to highlight Wadhwani AI’s work

Wadhwani AI is a nonprofit institute building and deploying applied AI solutions to solve critical issues in public health, agriculture, education, and urban development in underserved communities in the global south. We collaborate with governments, social sector organizations, academic and research institutions, and domain experts to identify real-world problems, and develop practical AI solutions to tackle these issues with the aim of making a substantial positive impact.

We have over 30+ AI projects supported by leading philanthropies such as Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID and Google.org. With a team of over 200 professionals, our expertise encompasses AI/ML research and innovation, software engineering, domain knowledge, design and user research.

 ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Market research: Maintain an updated and comprehensive database of partners and donors to create landscape reports and map specific organizations. 

  • Opportunity identification and evaluation: Identify new use cases, domains, partners and donors for Wadhwani AI’s solutions and overall mission of AI for social impact. 

  • Stakeholder engagement: Design and implement online and offline initiatives to engage with donors, partners, non-profits, academic institutions and for profit organizations at a regional and global level. These will include one-on-one meetings, relationship management, online campaigns and larger events. 

  • Proposal and collateral development: Prepare well researched grant proposals, presentations and concept notes for current and new solutions to secure funding and partnerships. 

  • Project management: End-to-end management of the fundraising pipeline from opportunity identification to closure and handover.

  • Team Management: Lead a lean team of 2-3 Associates and interns 

What your first 30 days will look like

  • Learn about artificial intelligence: Complete internally provided material and some recommended online courses.

  • Meet the team: Have introductory meetings with all the other teams to understand their roles and build a relationship. Since a lot of work is very collaborative, this will be important.

  • Learn about various projects at the Institute: Study the different AI projects that require funding and partnerships support.

What will days 30-90 look like

  • Create market maps and identify prospective opportunities for fundraising and partnerships for each solution as appropriate. 

  • Created a strong database of donors and partners with pipeline of potential opportunities

  • Identify and own some accounts and relationships of current and prospective partners/donors

  • Apply for at least 2 grants by preparing and submitting proposals in coordination with your team. 

What will days 90-180 look like 

  • Raise your first round of funds 

  • Help create good practices, processes and culture within the Partnerships and Fundraising team

  • Create and start implementing plans for stakeholder engagement with the support of the team and other colleagues. 

  • Help create a foundation to expand your role and that of your team 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Master Degree in any related field 

  • 7-9 years of  work experience, preferably in consulting, program management, partnerships, advocacy or fundraising.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal 

  • Is comfortable in situations with multiple stakeholders and an ambiguous environment, starting from scratch

  • Team management experience but comfortable working as an individual contributor (this will be required)
